Welcome to Room 5 Penguins.

Term 4 is a very short term but loaded with lots of exciting events and learning.
We have science experiments, baking, Athletics training, Keeping ourselves safe, creating stories using ICT tools and many more learning areas. Keep checking this page for new links.

Term 3 is definitely a very busy term. We have swimming lessons every Friday, cross-country training each day, a Nutrition unit focus, School production acts to perfect, Grandparents Day, Parent interviews and going to the Gruffalo show at the Founders Theatre.
Check out the Gruffalo Website for games and activities.
Our Inquiry will be based around Entertainment and productions. Keep checking our inquiry page and the children's wiki pages for their work. We will also be using our wiki page to trials sharing our writing and asking for critical feedback/ feedforward.

Happy Feet
We have been keeping an eye on what has been happening with the penguin 'Happy Feet' who got washed up on Pekapeka beach on the Kapiti coast. Happy Feet was taken to the Wellington Zoo where he was being looked after. We thought it was funny that he got to Pekapeka Beach and our school was meant to be called Pekepekerau. We have been watching the live feed on the tv channel.
Happy Feets up date - he has been released from a ship into the Southern ocean where he will be set free to swim back to Antarctica. We have been able to see his movements through this website however the transmitter has stopped working hopefully it has just fallen off! http://www.ourfarsouth.org/ .

We learnt a lot about famous New Zealanders. It was interesting to find out how and why they became famous. We have inventors, writers, artists, entertainers, adventurers and movie directors. People like Richard Pierce the aviator, Bill Hamilton who developed the Hamilton Jet, Joy Cowley and Margaret Mahy both childrens authors, adventurers Sir Peter Blake and Sir Edmund Hillary plus singers like Sir Howard Morrison and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.

The Middle team visited Waitomo Caves, The Education Centre and Museum and the Ruakuri Walk as part of our Inquiry looking at how places with significant features can be used to enhance tourism and community identity.

We are Year 3 children who will share our work through different pages in our class wiki. Some of us might even post messages on a blog when we get used to using it.

Some of our pages will have links to websites that might help us with our home learning and other subjects that we will be looking at this year.

Our class mascot is Penny Penguin. She is a little blue penguin and will be travelling with us throughout the year. Penny has already been on a plane to our capital city Wellington. She has visited Gisborne and hopefully she'll share some photos.

As a school we chose to fundraise for Christchurch by holding a coin trail. Each class was given a letter of Christchurch to put their money donation on.
